Midfielder Shaun Derry thinks Joey Barton's decision to brand QPR's players as "maggots" was unwise.
Barton wasted no time in delivering a damning verdict on QPR's relegation on Sunday afternoon, describing some members of the squad as "maggots" and [expletive] shortly after the team's 0-0 draw at Reading .
Derry, one of the players who helped Rangers earn promotion to the top-flight two years ago, conceded the season had "horrible," but admitted that Barton's blast was ill-advised.
"I know Joey. I know him on a different level and I know that when things go against him personally he comes out with some unbelievable comments," the QPR midfielder told talkSPORT .
"Deep down he's a fighter, but at the same time, when you're down and you're really at the bottom of what's been a horrible season perhaps it wasn't the wisest thing."
