AC Milan have held an interest in several of Bologna’s key figures this season, and the Rossoblu’s CEO has offered some insight into the situation, with the Rossoneri and other clubs circling.

This summer is set to be highly interesting for Milan. Investment in the squad is heavily rumoured to be large and there is the possibility of a new manager taking the reigns for next season.

In the market, the Diavolo need to sign a new midfielder and a new forward, and they have been extensively linked with signing Lewis Ferguson and Joshua Zirkzee in recent months. Both have been among the top performers in Serie A and are generating significant interest.

Additionally, regarding a new manager, Thiago Motta is heavily respected and admired. Not only does it seem like Bologna will earn a European place next season, but he has massively improved several of the side’s talent, which ticks several boxes for the Rossoneri.

Furthermore, he has done this with one of the lowest wage budgets in the division, which further shows his ability to overperform his resources.

Claudio Fenucci, Bologna’s CEO, has spoken to Rai Radio 1 to offer information on Zirkzee, Motta and Ferguson’s futures amid the Milan interest. His comments have been relayed by Calciomercato.com.

Bologna’s performance in Serie A…

“Doing all the best, a Bologna team in Europe, beyond the Champions League, would be a beautiful signal for all of Italian football. As Atalanta did in previous years, by preparing a serious corporate organisation, with the right people in the sports area, the coach and a group that goes beyond expectations, we can make a different path and give a new perspective to many clubs.”

On Thiago Motta…

“The coach has been the architect of this growth and we hope that both he and the players will stay with us. Thiago is very happy at Bologna, it’s as if he had a longer contract than he actually has.”

On Joshua Zirkzee…

“We like to speak little about the future of our players, we prefer to live every moment in the present, there is great enthusiasm. However, we would like to keep everyone.”

On Lewis Ferguson…

“One of our secrets is the good organisation of both the sporting side and the technical area. Ferguson, Calafiori… You can name individuals but to leave others behind is not right. There are also more experienced players like Freuler who are giving their all. The idea is to keep as many players as possible, but talking about the future today is reductive.”
