Athletico Paranaense do not need to sell Inter Milan-linked goalkeeper Bento this summer.

This according to Brazilian journalist Daniel Piva, of Globo Espote Parana. Piva explained the situation of the 24-year-old in an interview with Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Bento looks to be one of Inter’s main targets for this summer transfer window.

A number of reports have indicated that the Nerazzurri want to make signing the Brazilian international their first order of business this summer.

It is not that Inter need to sign a first-choice goalkeeper. Yann Sommer is certainly more than capable of holding down that role for at least another season or two.

But Inter want to use this summer as an opportunity to sort out the long-term future of the goalkeeping position.

The Nerazzurri are fully convinced that Bento can be the player who starts in goal for them for many years to come.

Therefore, Inter hope to move early. They want to sign Bento so that the 24-year-old will have plenty of time to settle in as a deputy to Sommer before inheriting the starting shirt.

Athletico Paranaense “Don’t Have To Sell” Bento, Journalist Says

However, it may not be that simple for Inter.

Journalist Piva expects that it will not be easy by any means for the Nerazzurri to find an agreement with Bento’s current club Athletico Paranaense.

The journalist particularly expects that Athletico President Mario Carlos Petraglia will be ready to play hardball.

“Negotiating over players is one of the main strengths Petraglia has,” Piva explained.

“Athletico Paranaense operate with a policy of not needing to sell their best player.”

“That’s why a club that wants to buy from them has to present an offer that’s advantageous for all parties,” the journalist continued.

Of goalkeeper Bento, Petraglia said that “He’s now the hottest name as far as players who could transfer away.”

“Benfica had already tried to sign him last summer,” Piva continued.

“But their offers were rejected. Petraglia has already rejected an offer worth €15 million for the player.”

“The player himself dreams of a move to Europe,” Piva anticipated of Bento.

“But a lot will depend on how the negotiations go.”
