Andy Carroll answered criticism of his lack of goals by scoring twice as West Ham beat visiting West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League on Saturday. West Ham manager Sam Allardyce took a crack midweek at Carroll, who came into the game with only three goals since joining the club from Liverpool in the offseason. But Carroll impressed at Upton Park, and the Hammers eased any fears of relegation. They moved to 36 points, two shy of what Allardyce believes they need to be safe from the drop. Carroll headed in the opener, Gary O'Neil made it 2-0 by the break, and Carroll volleyed in the third goal. Graham Dorrans' penalty put West Brom on the board three minutes from time, but their afternoon was further tarnished by the red card for Youssof Mulumbu who, upset at not being awarded for a foul, kicked the ball at the back of O'Neil.
