We’re approaching the halfway point of the season, and we’re now getting a picture of the loans we sent players out on this season. The Athletic had a nice summary of it all.

Their graphic shows just how much Chelsea’s “project buys” of the last year are struggling for minutes.

Gabriel Slonina and David Datro Fofana are the only players to have played more than 50% of their team’s league minutes.

Angelo Gabriel has done a little better recently and improved to 48.5%, but given he’s at an affiliate club that’s not great either.

Omari Hutchinson and Cesare Casadei both are getting game time mainly off the bench in the Championship, and then it’s the predictably bad Diego Moreira at Lyon (22.1%) and the worst failure of all, Andrey Santos’ catastrophe at Nottingham Forest (0.6%).

We should be looking for players to play 70% or more, this is a really disappointing return. There needs to be a major January rethink, and those who picked these destinations need to have a long think about their ideas.
