Chris Sutton has shared a heartwarming picture of him alongside Stan Petrov and Henrik Larsson as the Celtic legends caught up. The striker-turned-pundit shared the photo on Twitter/X alongside the caption “Still suffering with a hangover from last night but it was worth it

”.

The Swedish striker followed Wim Jansen to Celtic ahead of a huge season where they sought to stop Rangers from winning 10IAR. It is fair to say that Larsson’s impact at the club transcended that first, memorable season. In his time at Celtic, Larsson scored 242 goals going from stopping the ten in 1998 before bowing out as a Scottish Champion. They don’t make many like Henrik these days. Despite his stature, he could jump well above central defenders and a nip of pace to take him beyond many a defender. The quality that he had in front of goal speaks for itself given the sheer amount of goals that he scored.

Sutton and Larsson were brilliant at linking up on the park. The ex-Norwich and Blackburn Rovers forward arrived from Chelsea in a deal worth £6m, then the club’s record transfer fee. Sutton made 199 appearances for the club, scoring 86 times. In this time he would be a roaring success winning four titles, three Scottish Cups and one League Cup. He was a fine player with great instincts, even if he wasn’t the quickest at times. His fantastic vision, eye for goal and almost telepathic link-up with Henrik Larsson made him a key figure in that successful era.

Petrov made 311 appearances for Celtic, scoring 64 times in a successful seven-year spell at the club. A fighter on and off the pitch, Petrov has gone into some punditry work often appearing on Sky Sports and Celtic TV. Petrov was signed from CSKA Sofia in 1999 by John Barnes for £2.8m but it wasn’t long before Kenny Dalglish replaced Barnes and his performances improved after a tough period of settling. The summer that ushered Martin O’Neill’s arrival would be the catalyst for Petrov, he won the SPFA Young Player of the Year as Celtic completed a domestic treble.

Three Celtic legends and it is good to see them looking well.
