Tottenham Hotspur finalised the transfer of Radu Dragusin last month, sealing a deal with Genoa for €25 million plus an additional €5 million in potential add-ons.

As part of this agreement, Spurs sent right-back Djed Spence on loan to Genoa for the remainder of the season, with the Italian club having the option to make the move permanent at the end of the loan spell.

Since joining Genoa, Spence has made a positive impact, starting in three Serie A games and catching the attention of the club’s management.

In a recent interview with La Repubblica (via Sport Witness), Genoa’s CEO, Andres Blazquez, discussed the potential permanent signing of Spence.

Blazquez highlighted that Genoa had been interested in signing Spence since last summer, and while the Dragusin deal played a role, Spence’s own qualities were also a factor.

He said:

“Then came Vitina, who has an important contract and is a ready player, and Spence, who we looked for in the summer, but who had a prohibitive cost and I believe he will give us satisfaction.”

Meanwhile, Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) quoted a slightly varying Blazquez’s statement about Spence, stating:

“He can be an important acquisition for the future.”

Spence’s transfer to Tottenham in the summer of 2022 was met with some skepticism, as manager Antonio Conte referred to him as a club signing, suggesting that he may not have fully endorsed the move.

Furthermore, Spence’s loan spell at Leeds United this season was cut short due to disciplinary and attitude issues, raising doubts about his future with Spurs.

With Genoa showing strong interest in signing him permanently, it remains uncertain whether Spence will feature for Tottenham again.
