Eric Dier, is poised to continue with Bayern Munich next season, with the club aiming to finalise a permanent deal.

The centre-back departed from Spurs in January this year, concluding a nearly decade-long tenure in North London.

Dier moved to the German club on a loan transfer, with the provision for a potential one-year deal. .

According to David Ornstein, the football correspondent for the Athletic, Bayern have opted to activate that option, planning to secure the Englishman permanently as a free agent in the summer, as Dier’s contract with the Lilywhites expires this June.

This turn of events came as a surprise, particularly in light of recent reports from the German outlet BILD Sport, which suggested that the Bundesliga side was unlikely to exercise a one-year extension for Dier.

This decision was purportedly influenced by concerns over the player’s unconvincing performances and perceived lack of pace as a centre-back.

Nevertheless, there seems to have been a change of circumstances with this latest development for the 30-year-old, who has amassed 6 appearances in the German top flight since his arrival, featuring as a starter in 4 games.

Dier left North London after failing to make an impression on the new manager, Ange Postecoglou, with just one Premier League start this season before concluding his lengthy tenure with the Lilywhites.

Dier made a remarkable 364 appearances for Tottenham after he arrived from Sporting in the summer of 2014, contributing with 13 goals and 12 assists along the way.
