Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has suggested that David Moyes was not Sir Alex Ferguson’s first choice to take over at Manchester United last summer – because the Red Devils approached Carlo Ancelotti.
Moyes was sacked just 10 months into his Old Trafford reign as a dismal season culminated in United limping to a seventh-place finish.
The former Everton boss was widely understood to be Ferguson’s number one choice to succeed him at Old Trafford following his retirement.
However, Perez has cast doubt on that assumption by claiming that United tried to tempt Ancelotti to the club last summer.
