Scott Carson has opted to extend his deal at Man City by one year, taking his stay in Manchester to three years.

Carson was initially brought in from Derby on a two-year loan and was snapped up by City permanently on a free upon the expiration of his Derby contract.

The keeper was brought in to predominantly act as the blues number three, behind Zach Steffen and Ederson in the pecking order, reflected by him only playing two games in total for the club.

But it speaks volumes to the 36-year-old’s character that Pep Guardiola and sporting director Txiki Begiristain have made the decision to keep him at the club for another year.

Speaking about his decision to extend Carson’s contract Begiristain said: “Scott is an exemplary professional and his experience is of real benefit to the entire squad.

“His teammates, especially the goalkeepers, have great respect for his achievements in the game and his support has been a huge help to them.

“As he has demonstrated, we know he is always ready to play should he be called upon.”

Despite his lack of game-time Carson was ecstatic to have extended his stay with the Cityzens.

“I’m delighted to be staying with City for another season,” Carson said.

“To work with Pep, the coaches and such talented team-mates is a real honour and one I relish every day.

“I have already gained so much from my time here and hopefully I can keep helping to push the Club’s other goalkeepers to be the best they can be.”
