During the coverage of last night’s game between AC Milan and Cagliari at San Siro, Gianluca Di Marzio shared some updates on the pursuit of a new head coach.

In a rather bizarre paradox, Milan were electric on the field particularly in the second half as they scored five times and hammered their relegation-threatened opponents 5-1, but the mood in the stands was anything but a party.

The Curva Sud continued the protest they started during the Genoa game last Sunday night which made for a quite eerie atmosphere, and their motives behind doing so were the perceived lack of ambition and clarity from the ownership.

One of the big indicators from the management will be who they select as the head coach to replace Stefano Pioli, and Di Marzio (via MilanNews) gave some updates on Sergio Conceicao, Paulo Fonseca and Antonio Conte too.

“Conceicao? [It is a] Forced coexistence with Villas-Boas, because he didn’t vote for him to be the new president. He wants to go to Milan, his agent Jorge Mendes is pushing for him to be the chosen one,” he said.

“Milan also like Fonseca a lot and insisted on presenting him with a project but he was called first by Marseille who offered him a three-year contract and gave him carte blanche.

“If there is any news on De Zerbi or Conte or coaches who we don’t know are among Milan’s favourites, we will find out in the coming weeks.”
