Willian posing in his Chelsea kit. Chelsea will be announcing the signing of the new Brazilian playmaker Willian after Jose Mourinho and Chelsea managed to make a last-minute deal with his former club Anzhi Makhachkala to lure him to Stamford Bridge instead of White Hart Lane.  This is a statement from the club’s website, “Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with both Willian and his club Anzhi Makhachkala for the transfer of the Brazilian player.  The transfer is subject to a work permit hearing on Wednesday.” It remains to be seen on where Willian will be deployed in Mourinho’s 4-2-3-1 formation considering they already boast the like of Hazard, Ramires, De Bruyne, Oscar, Mata, Victor Moses, and recently acquired Andre Schurrle.  Many were coaxed for Willian to join Spurs as Andre Villas Boas saw him as the perfect replacement for the possibly out-going Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.  Willian was set to join Spurs as he had passed his medical but he had a change of heart and decided to transfer to Chelsea.  This is a huge blow to Tottenham as they continue their search for a replacement.  However, one has to ask, does this put a strain on the relationship of the two managers? Jose Mourinho on the sidelines at Old Trafford. Villas Boas was Mourinho’s so-called ‘apprentice’ when the pair worked together at Porto and Chelsea.  Many would believe that they would have a great understanding and respect towards each other but that seems to be troubled now with the current transfer dealings.  With the entire buzz in the transfer window, Tottenham have been rapidly enhancing their squad with the signings of Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, and Etienne Capoue to further compete for a top-four finish for the coveted Champions League.  With the prolonged Gareth Bale saga seeming to coming to a close, Tottenham and company are desperate in his replacement and saw Willian the perfect player to fit that bill.  However, he instead will feature at Chelsea under Mourinho and it seems to be a tough pill to swallow for Villas Boas and Tottenham as he is still on the lookout for Bale’s replacement. Villas Boas had already come out and claimed that he is not bitter over the Willian transfer snub but actions speak louder than words so we can only wait until the next Spurs versus Chelsea match where it should create an interesting dilemma when the two coaches greet each other.
