Everton boss Dyche: I'm not angry with the players - it's a head scratcher

Everton boss Sean Dyche says he's not angry with his players after last night's 6-0 thrashing at Chelsea.

Dyche admits they were "horrible" on Monday.

But asked if he was angry with his players, he said: "No, I think it is part of your career, it can't always be ups. I have had 500-odd games as a manager, 500-odd games as a player, 300-plus in the Premier League, so I am learning because that was miles off, and you think you can see these things coming, you can smell it sometimes, not a whiff of anything.

"The first few minutes of the game I thought that was exactly what we wanted from the team. One goes in, soft goal as it was, dancing through the pitch with not even a tackle, not even anyone looking like they had an intent to tackle then the second one goes in, then the third one is a mistake, and you are thinking what is happening here and it is so far off the mark you can't even put one finger on it.

"We made a couple of changes for the second half and I thought we were marginally better, nowhere near it, but marginally better. That was a head scratcher for me. Backlog, hangover from the points again? Maybe I don't know, but we can't use that, it's done, so now we have got to crack on and that is a massive reminder - to me as well and the players I am dealing with and the players I am picking."

On the away fans, Dyche added: "They have been terrific, there is no question on that, never question the Everton supporters - that will never happen because they are here again, they travel all over the place, all I can do is accept responsibility for a performance that is absolutely miles away from what I expect from this group of players."
