Juventus great and former Italy coach Dino Zoff says Roberto Mancini's resignation has surprised him.
Mancini announced his resignation as Italy manager on Sunday, with a three-year deal waiting for him as Saudi Arabia coach.
Zoff told Tuttosport: "I was also surprised because a week ago he was appointed coordinator of all the national teams. Mancini certainly did a good job, the European title conquered after more than 50 years was a big blow, certainly the failure to qualify for the World Cup in a balance sheet cannot fail to weigh a lot.
"I don't want to say too much about his possible replacement. I read that they've already mentioned the names of (Antonio) Conte and (Luciano) Spalletti, excellent coaches for sure. I am confident that the Federation will be able to find a coach who is up to par with the history of our national team."
