Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney believes some injured players aren't fighting to get back for manager Erik ten Hag.

Rooney was speaking after defeat at home Arsenal.

"Well if they are [fighting to keep Ten Hag] I don't think they are showing it very well," Rooney explained.

"I think the performances, there are some very good players in that squad and the performances are way below par. As we look at some of the injuries they have picked up, some of them players can play.

"Some of them injured players can play 100 per cent. You have got a European Championships coming up, an FA Cup final coming up it is easy for players to stay out [of the firing line] and come back towards the final and get themselves ready for the European Championships.

"I have seen it myself over the years, I just think the players who have been injured, they are not filling themselves with any credit at the minute and the manager is going to take all the stick for it."
