The FAI look set to appoint Lee Carsley as their new manager. Ireland decided to part ways with Stephen Kenny and Neil Lennon emerged as a frontrunner to replace his compatriot. However, the Celtic legend is standing by should a deal for Carsley fall through.

According to a report by the Irish Mirror, via Football Scotland, the former Everton player is heavy favourite to become the new Ireland manager. Although, Lenny is highly thought of within the organisation and they could turn to him if any difficulties arise.

Carsley is currently the manager of England’s second side and is highly thought of; however, he has resisted moves to club management thus far. Lennon, meanwhile, has been keen to get back into management with a few offers being turned down.

Lennon has been out of a job since leaving Omonia Nicosia midway through last season. In two spells as Celtic manager, Lennon enjoyed success winning five league titles, four Scottish Cups and one League Cup.

The Irishman would probably be perfectly suited for the international game as he was excellent at getting teams up for big games. Hopefully we see the Celtic legend back in the game soon.
