Last Friday, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé announced that he’d be leaving the club after this season, with his contract expiring next month. While this chapter has a bittersweet ending, one former player respects the Frenchman’s decision.

In a heartfelt video message lasting over three minutes, the 2018 FIFA World Cup champion expressed gratitude, acknowledged past missteps, professed his affection for the team, and revealed plans for “a new challenge” ahead.

The next challenge for the forward will be joining Real Madrid and aiming to win the UEFA Champions League with the Spanish giants. It’s a decision that former PSG player Javier Pastore understands and respects.

“Today, I fully support his decision because they are personal choices,” Pastore told L’Equipe (h/t Le10Sport). “If he feels that the time has come to leave, we must accept it. It’s natural for it to sadden us. I would have liked him to stay at PSG forever, but we must focus on the positives, the emotions shared, and stand behind him wherever he goes.”

After the UEFA Champions League final wraps up, it’s expected that the Frenchman will be unveiled as the club’s latest addition. Meanwhile, PSG will be on the hunt for a replacement for their soon-to-be star player as they begin a new era next season.
