French star Olivier Giroud confirms plans to join MLS
Yukihito Taguchi-USA TODAY Sports

French striker Olivier Giroud confirmed Monday that he will depart AC Milan to join MLS when his contract expires this summer.

There have been previous reports that the 37-year-old former World Cup champion plans to join countryman Hugo Lloris at LAFC.

"The next two games will be my last for Milan," he said in an interview published on AC Milan's official channels. "My career will continue in MLS. I'm very proud of everything I've done here at Milan across three seasons. It's the right time to announce it.

"... My story with Milan ends this year, but Milan will forever remain in my heart."

The all-time leading goal scorer for France, Giroud has accumulated 57 goals in 131 matches. He helped Les Bleus win the 2018 World Cup over Croatia.

Giroud has scored 14 goals this season at AC Milan. His professional totals include 285 goals in 716 matches with 13 trophies across his stops with AC Milan, Chelsea (2018-21), Arsenal (2012-18) and in his native France.
