Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers failed in his bid to bring in late additions to his squad as deadline day passed without incoming activity.
The Reds had been linked with a number of players, most strongly Clint Dempsey, but no deals materialised before the 11pm deadline.
Rodgers had said earlier in the day he was "hopeful" of making additions but the only major confirmed movements at the club saw midfielders Charlie Adam and Jay Spearing head out of Anfield.
After also allowing club record ?35million signing Andy Carroll join West Ham on a season-long loan on Thursday, Rodgers had been targeting another striker.
The club had been involved in a protracted pursuit of United States international Dempsey from Fulham but any hope of a deal collapsed and the forward ended the day a Tottenham player.
Other players including Arsenal and England winger Theo Walcott and Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge were linked but nothing came to fruition.
