Giroud Confirms Milan Exit Following Three-Year Run

As widely anticipated, Olivier Giroud will leave Milan at the end of his contract and head to the United States. The striker announced his farewell on Instagram on Monday. He didn’t disclose his next team, which will be the Los Angeles FC. He expounded to the club’s TV (via Calciomercato).

“I’m here to tell you that I’ll play my final two matches with Milan. I’ll continue my career, but in the MLS. I’m very proud of what I’ve done at Milan in these three years. It’s the right time to say it. My story with Milan ends this year, but I’ll always carry it in my heart.”

“I’ve decided a few weeks ago. I’ve given everything to Milan, from when I was 35 to today when I’m almost 38. I think this is the right time for me and my family to try a different experience. There’s nothing more to it.”

Giroud has a small regret.

“I wished to leave with a trophy. I’m a competitor, and I’ve given everything for this jersey since my first days. The most important thing now is to defend our second place. I hope for a nice finish and to thank the fans, who welcomed me very well. I couldn’t have imagined a first season like that. I’m very proud. My dream now is to win the Euro.”

Giroud has tallied 48 goals and 20 assists during his three campaigns with the Rossoneri. He has scored every 186 minutes, Il Fatto Quotidiano informs.
