Asamoah Gyan finally broke his goal duck to score in Ghana’s 3-0 win over Niger in their final group B game in South Africa on Monday night.
The Black Stars captain has been criticized in the local media for failing to inspire the Ghanaians at the continental showpiece but his 6th minute effort should end talk of his scoring drought and should go some way to easing the 27-year-old back to top form after a slow start in the tournament.
The former Sunderland hitman wasted no time in blasting home from close range to beat goalkeeper Daouda Kassal to register his first goal in the tournament.
Gyan then provided the assist as he laid the pass to Christian Atsu who scored the second with an intelligent lob in the 23rd minute.
France-based defender John Boye was an unlikely source of goal as he scored the third in the 48th minute.
