Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed today that Eljif Elmas has ‘practically been sold’ to RB Leipzig and the details of the deal are emerging.
The midfielder was pushing for more playing time after never really breaking into the starting XI under various coaches, although things had improved a little since Walter Mazzarri took over from Rudi Garcia.
According to transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig have agreed to pay a €25m fee to sign the North Macedonia international during the January window.
It is €5m below the reported €30m proposal that had been made by the same club over the summer, but this time the difference was Elmas pushing hard to be allowed to leave.
He is now expected to undergo his medical before the end of this month, so he can start with RB Leipzig as soon as the window opens on January 2.
Elmas made only 11 competitive appearances for Napoli this season, contributing two goals, but never stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes of any of them.
