‘I hope that…’: Player hints at a permanent exit from Tottenham in summer

Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence joined the Italian club Genoa on loan until the end of the season during the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old was on loan at Leeds United during the first half of the season, but the Championship outfit decided to terminate his contract and send him back to his parent club midway through the season.

There have been rumours of disciplinary issues related to the player during his time in the Championship. Spence will now look to get his career back on track with regular football in Italy.

It seems that the 23-year-old is enjoying his time at Genoa and he has revealed that he is satisfied with the move so far. The defender also hinted that he hopes that it will be a start of long journey.

He said (Gazzetta Dello Sport h/t SportWitness): “I knew they had already been looking for me last summer. Now, the right conditions were evidently there to close the operation. I’m satisfied. It’s an important opportunity. I hope that this can be the beginning of a long journey in a club that is growing.

“I found a nice team and a pleasant city. I settled in quickly. They supported me in everything. Everyone in the locker room has helped. There’s a nice atmosphere here. Soon I will start studying Italian. For now, I preferred to concentrate on football.”

Genoa have been linked with the defender in the past and it is clear that they rate him highly. Spence has previously shown his quality in the Championship as well. There is no doubt that he is a talented player and he could be an important member of the Genoa first-team.

It will be interesting to see if he can impress during the second half of the campaign and convince the Italian outfit to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

It is evident that he does not have a future at Tottenham. The London outfit already have Pedro Porro and Emerson Royal ahead of him in the pecking order. It would make sense for all parties to go their separate ways and selling the player permanently in the summer would be ideal.
