‘Incredible’ Tottenham player could become ‘one of the best’ to play for his country

Former Swedish international Martin Åslund feels Tottenham teenage sensation Lucas Bergvall could do wonders for the Swedish national team.

Lucas Bergvall’s impressive rise caught the attention of multiple top clubs from across Europe. While the race for his services was intense, the North London club managed to strike a deal with Djurgården for the midfield sensation two months back. The 18-year-old will make the move to Tottenham in the summer.

The Swedish sensation came up the ranks at Brommapojkarna before joining Djurgården at the start of 2023 and he has gone from strength to strength since. In the ongoing season, the versatile midfielder has featured in nine matches and has contributed towards eight goals.

He is a star in the making and former Sweden international Martin Åslund had some high praises for the teenager while talking on Studio Allsvenskan’s podcast.

Lucas Bergvall tipped to be a star

While Aslund is not really sure about his move to Tottenham Hotspur, he feels the 18-year-old has the potential to develop into a star. He is an ‘incredible’ player who could become ‘one of the best’ to have played for Sweden.

Aslund on Bergvall via SportWitness: “I think he will be a very good national team player. I think he ends up in a top team in the Benelux and there he can become the GOAT [Greatest of all time],”

“Will he replace James Maddison at Tottenham? I hope I’m wrong and that he does, but I don’t think so. People take what I say the wrong way, Lucas is an incredible footballer.

“If you see how Bergvall plays football, he is an opportunist, he often does the difficult things.

“If you’re going to play in the Premier League and have that role, you have to check which other players have it, how many Swedish players have that role? There are extremely few, so then Lucas Bergvall must become one of the best players in Swedish history. Am I sure he will be? No, I don’t think so.”

Åslund is unsure whether the teenager can break into the Tottenham first team and replace James Maddison.He feels the teenager should have joined another club with less competition for places. The former Swedish international feels a move to Belgium or the Netherlands would have suited him more at this stage. But, hopes that he could be proven wrong in the long run.
