Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has earned praise for his “ruthless” goal against Fiorentina yesterday evening.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, praise the Argentine for popping up when it mattered for the umpteenth time this season.

Yesterday evening’s match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi was not an easy one for Inter’s strikers.

Unlike in the reverse fixture at the San Siro, Martinez and Marcus Thuram did not have all that much service, and had to “feed on scraps” in attack.

Therefore, the chances did not arrive in droves for Inter’s captain to add to his already eye-watering goal tally.

However, Martinez is not a player who needs too many chances to score.

And the 26-year-old showed that with his goal against La Viola yesterday.

Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez Praised For “Ruthlessness” Vs Fiorentina

Martinez played like a player who is confident from a great run of form.

The Argentine chased after lost causes and was always running the channels against Fiorentina’s two centre-backs Lucas Martinez Quarta and Luca Ranieri.

Given that Inter’s gameplan clearly revolved around counterattacks, it was vital for Martinez to never stop running and to time his movements intelligently.

The captain helped bring the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Davide Frattesi into play. This was no small matter in an Inter attack that could lack numbers at times.

And Martinez once again showed just how intuitive of an understanding he has with his strike partner Thuram.

The two strikers made space for each other by dragging the Fiorentina defenders around throughout the first half.

And Martinez also showed his physicality to back into his marker on a few occasions.

And, most importantly, Inter’s captain scored. Goals are something that can almost be taken for granted from Martinez this season.

And it was an excellent header from the Argentine.

Martinez showed that even in a match where he is not getting too many chances, he can turn just one moment into a goal and with it a result for the team.
