Inter Milan Coach Explains Squad Rotation In Serie A Clash Vs Sassuolo: ‘I Thought Carefully About My Decisions’

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has explained the decisions behind his squad rotation against Sassuolo this evening.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN ahead of the Serie A match, via FCInterNews.

Inter coach Inzaghi has made a total of five changes to the team that beat Torino last week.

Firstly, Emil Audero starts in goal. The former Juventus keeper gets the nod ahead of Yann Sommer despite the latter being fit.

Then, in midfield there are two notable changes.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan keeps his place, but Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella drop out of the lineup. That means that Kristjan Asllani and Davide Frattesi start.

Meanwhile, on the right flank Denzel Dumfries returns to the starting eleven after serving a suspension in last weekend’s match against Torino.

Then, in attack Alexis Sanchez takes the place of Marcus Thuram.

It is hardly as though Inzaghi has just put out Inter’s “second string” against the Neroverdi.

There are players like Lautaro Martinez, Alessandro Bastoni, and Benjamin Pavard starting, for example.

Then, Inzaghi has shown that he trusts the players who don’t start as often this season.

Therefore, the 48-year-old appears to be content to make a few alterations – but still expects a high standard of performance with or without a few of the more familiar names.

As far as the rotations, Inzaghi said that “I put a lot of thought into my decisions.”

“All of these guys have given me guarantees throughout the season,” he noted.

“Audero, for example, has always done well when called upon.”

“In Lecce and against Empoli, for example, he played very well,” Inzaghi said.

Meanwhile, Inzaghi also spoke about Inter’s motivation to win in their last few matches despite having already clinched the title.

“Beyond the possibility of setting records, we have to think one match at a time,” the Nerazzurri coach said.

“This is a league that we have to give the respect it deserves,” he continued.

Inzaghi noted that “There will be playing time for everyone. As it should be.”

“Despite the celebrations, we trained very seriously to prepare for this match,” Inzaghi made clear. “We’ve done our best over the last three days.”

And Inzaghi also spoke about the “Beautiful moment” that has been enjoying the Serie A title triumph.

“We celebrated amongst ourselves. And then with our fans.”

“We’re very happy,” said the Inter coach. “It was what we wanted.”
