Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu feels that clinching the Serie A title against AC Milan was vindication after treatment from former teammates.

The Turk spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. He opened up about how he “won’t forget” the Rossoneri’s taunts after they had won the title two years ago.

Calhanoglu joined Inter from Milan in the summer of 2021.

The Turkish international made the move on a free transfer after his contract with the Rossoneri expired.

And in a quite ironic situation, Calhanoglu joined Inter whilst they were defending champions – and then the Nerazzurri lost out on the title to the team he had left that summer in his first season at the club.

The heated derby rivalry between Inter and Milan added to the emotional charge of the situation.

And it boiled over for Milan in their title celebrations.

Former Rossoneri striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic led chants taunting Calhanoglu about the irony of his missing out on the title.

Now, though, Calhanoglu has gotten his revenge. The 30-year-old has been a key player for Inter as they romped to this season’s title.

Hakan Calhanoglu: “Won’t Forget” Treatment From AC Milan

Calhanoglu opened up, “I’ve always worked and suffered in silence.”

“When I arrived at Inter, I had only one goal. To give my best and win trophies with this extraordinary team.”

“[Monday’s] title win was great revenge for the suffering I felt all year when I first arrived, when we lost the title to Milan.”

“I won’t forget everything that was done against me by the Milanisti,” Calhanoglu said.

“But in my heart, I was always certain that things would go well in the end.”

Calhanoglu said that “I knew my redemption would come.”

“Winning the Serie A title in the derby has been my greatest satisfaction,” added the former Milan midfielder. “This triumph is payback for everything.”
