Inter Milan target Nicolas Valentini has been dropped from the Boca Juniors squad after failing to agree a new contract.

This according to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, via FCInterNews.

Valentini is currently under contract with Boca until the end of December of this year.

The 23-year-old Argentine’s representatives have been in talks with the club regarding a possibility of an extension, however.

Boca’s aim is to extend Valentini’s deal until the end of December 2028. They want to have more leverage so that they can cash in for a higher fee rather than having their hand forced.

TyC report that Boca believed that they had an agreement with Valentini’s representatives regarding a new contract which would take him level with midfielder Cristian Medina in terms of wages.

However, the broadcaster reports, Valentini has decided not to accept this offer for the time being.

Inter Target Nicolas Valentini Out Of Boca Juniors Squad Amid Contract Standoff

According to TyC there are a couple of points of contention that have caused Valentini not to sign a new deal as of yet.

One would concern whether he receives increased wages retroactively starting from January 2023 rather than only going forward.

The other would be a release clause. Valentini wants the release clause in his contract to be €10 million – Boca want it to be higher.

TyC report that Valentini could still sign an extension.

This would not necessarily be to commit his long-term future to Boca. But rather, it would allow the Argentine club to cash in on his departure for a larger fee.

However, there is no guarantee of that.

And in the event that Valentini definitively decides not to sign a new contract, he could leave either for a fee this summer, or even on a free transfer next January after his deal runs out.

In the meantime, TyC report, Valentini is out of the Boca squad.

The 23-year-old has not been called up for the club’s clash with Godoy Cruz tonight.

And TyC anticipate that this decision could remain for Boca’s upcoming matches as well, should Valentini not sign a new contract.
