Inter Milan will not repeat the “provocative” Serie A title celebrations of city rivals AC Milan from the 2021-22 season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908.

There is no doubt that the prospect of clinching the Serie A title with a derby win is an enticing one for Inter.

The Nerazzurri have the opportunity to do exactly that next Monday.

And this would be a very symbolically important win for a couple of reasons.

First of all, neither Inter nor Milan have ever clinched a Serie A title by winning a derby.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have won 38 titles between them – nineteen each to date – but the decisive win never came in a derby for any of those title victories.

Then, there is also the circumstances of the last time that Milan won the title.

Inter Won’t Repeat “Provocative” AC Milan Serie A Title Celebrations

During the 2021-22 Serie A season, Inter had led the league table for a fairly large chunk of the season.

But a run of very poor form in the spring allowed the Rossoneri to take the lead over them.

Inter had a game in hand – away to Bologna – which they played in April. But a fateful defeat at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara proved to be the decisive turning point in the race.

Milan were able to see out the rest of the season with an impressive winning run.

This allowed the Rossoneri to beat Inter to the title on the final day of the season. The margin of victory was only two points.

Inter have gotten some measure of revenge in the intervening period.

For one thing, the Nerazzurri have won the last five derbies across all competitions. This included knocking their city rivals out of the Champions League in a dramatic semifinal tie.

However, it would be winning the Serie A title that would really give Inter the sense of having avenged the spring of 2022.

That is particularly the case given the manner in which Milan celebrated the title victory that season.

There were some celebrations that Inter felt had gone “overboard” in terms of directly provoking them.

In particular, former Nerazzurri striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic had directly chided midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu – who had joined Inter from Milan in the previous summer.

However, the Gazzetta report, Inter would have no intention of any such antics.

Rather, the Nerazzurri are aiming for more respectful celebrations if and when they clinch the title this season.
