According to a report on talkSport today, Celtic are willing to listen to offers for club legend James Forrest. If true it could spell the end of an era…

James Forrest made his debut under Neil Lennon in 2010 and has since made 485 appearances scoring 103 goals while also providing over 100 assists for this football club. In that time he’s won an impressive 23 honours. He played a significant role in Celtic’s record equalling nine in a row era, and of course contributed enormously to Celtic’s unprecedented quadruple treble.

From Neil Lennon, to Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon again, Ange Postecoglou, and of course currently back under Brendan Rodgers once again, James Forrest has seen it all, he’s won it all. He’s played in the Champions League, he’s scored in cup finals. He’s scored important Derby goals.  He’s scored hat-tricks, one time he even scored four goals in one game. James Forrest is a modern day Celtic legend.

A lot of folk sadly won’t agree with that, they are entitled to their view but to me James Forrest is worthy of the Celtic legend status. James has been the subject of criticism throughout his career by a section of the Celtic supporters, unfairly in my book. He has never really had a song, unlike many less deserving players, some here for very short spells at the club. Maybe that’s because he’s home grown, a graduate of the Celtic Academy.

Granted he’s not the player he was, but he always gave one hundred percent when called upon, but it now looks like his time at Celtic could be about to come to an end. James is under contract for another season after this one but may fancy a chance to play regular football in the closing stages of his incredible career. And a move to Ayr Utd to team up with their new manager and Jamesy’s mate Scott Brown would seem like a sensible option.

If and when he does go, it’ll be a sad moment as it will signal the end of an era for one of our most loyal players in recent times. Our editor had better check that Sandman is going to be okay. When he hears the news he’ going to be distraught.

PS: ‘There only one James Forrest’ was actually sung at a Scottish Cup game against Partick Thistle at Celtic Park.  Pity it wasn’t sung more often.
