Koni De Winter debuted with Belgium during the recent international break, coronating his great season with Genoa while on loan from Juventus. The situation won’t last long, as the Rossoblù are about to buy him out, Tuttomercatoweb informed.

The deal included a conditioned obligation to make the transfer permanent. He needs to make two more appearances and his team to avoid relegation to trigger it. It’s a fait accompli already.

Genoa will shell out €8M to Juventus to redeem De Winter. He had moved to Turin on a free transfer from Zulte Waregem in 2018 when he was only 16. The package envisages €2M in potential add-ons and a re-sale clause. He had previously cut his teeth at Empoli.

The Grifone might quickly turn a profit on him. He’s generating interest in the Premier League, in particular from Wolverhampton and Everton. His valuation has already doubled, and his sale could fetch €15/17M.

Genoa befitted greatly from a similar operation in January. They bought out Radu Dragusin from the Old Lady for nearly €10M last summer and sold him for €25M to Tottenham.

Our Take on Juventus and De Winter

Dragusin and Cristian Romero’s cases are more damning, as they have quickly become elite defenders, but the Belgian has a lot of room for improvement and great physical skills. In their new and stingier era, the Bianconeri should think twice before relinquishing control of any youngster.
