At 23-years-old, soccer phenom Alex Morgan has already accomplished quite a bit, but she can now add authoring a children's book to her resume, too.Morgan's book entitled "Saving the Team" is now available for sale online via Amazon.com after being released on Tuesday. It is the first book of a three-book series targeted toward middle school-age children and the theme will center around four young girls who learn about friendship, leadership, and soccer.Morgan said she hopes the books will "inspire young girls" to read and "celebrate" her love of soccer. Here is a full description of the first novel:From star soccer player and Olympic gold medalist Alex Morgan comes the first book in an empowering, fun-filled middle grade series about believing in yourself and working as a team.Twelve-year-old Devin loves to play soccer. If she hadn’t just left Connecticut to move across the country, she would have been named seventh-grade captain on her school soccer team. But now that Devin is starting seventh grade in Kentville, California, all bets are off. After all, some of the best players on the US national team come from California. She’s sure to have stiff competition. Or so she thinks. When Devin shows up for tryouts, she discovers that the Kentville Kangaroos—otherwise known as the Kicks—are an absolute mess. Their coach couldn’t care less whether the girls win or lose. And Devin is easily one of the most talented players. The good news is, Devin quickly makes friends with funny, outgoing Jessi; shy but sweet Zoe; and klutzy Emma. Can Devin and her newfound friends pull together and save the team from itself? It sounds like a good read, eh?It's currently available on Amazon for $10.98 for a hardcover copy. So, be sure to secure yours before they are all gone! According to her publisher's website, the second novel in the series entitled "Sabotage Season" is slated to be released later this year in September.Morgan starred at UCLA before serving as the youngest player on Team USA's roster at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. The Americans placed second in the tournament as Morgan recorded two goals and an assist en route to finishing eighth in the voting for 2011 FIFA World Player of the Year.In 2012, Morgan played a pivotal role in helping guide the Americans to a gold medal in the London Summer Olympics. Her game-winning goal in the 123rd minute against Canada sealed the deal for the U.S. Morgan led the United States women's team in goals (28) and assists (21) in 2012 en route to being named the 2012 U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year.
