Lee Carsley knocks back Ireland gig, Celtic legend set for role

Celtic legend Neil Lennon looks set to become the new manager of Ireland. The 52-year-old has been one of the favourites but it appeared that Lee Carsley would take the role after talks in London.

Although, a report from Irish Mirror states that Carsley has rejected the advances of the FAI with attentions switching to Lennon.

The Irishman, from Lurgan, represented the North but had said previously he would be interested in taking over from Stephen Kenny. Now, it appears that the FAI will look to appoint the former Celtic player and manager.

Kenny was dismissed after the Irish failed to qualify for the European Championships in Germany. Lennon has been on the list of favourites given his achievements at Celtic and now talks have taken place.

Lennon, who won five titles as Celtic boss as well as four Scottish Cups and one League Cup during his time at the club across two spells. A battling midfielder, Lennon is a Celtic legend and it would be good to get him back into the game with his passion making him perfect for international management.
