Ruben Loftus-Cheek has found a new lease of life with Milan, matching his best ever season at Chelsea in his debut year in Serie A.

The 28-year-old English midfielder was again a star for the Rossoneri this weekend, netting their opening goal in a tense 2-1 win away to Fiorentina on Saturday. He has continued to shine bright for the club since joining from Chelsea last summer in a deal worth around €20m.

When discussing Loftus-Cheek, the usual starting point is his 2018-19 season under Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, where he scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 40 matches across all competitions, numbers he never managed to recapture in West London.

Loftus-Cheek shines

Calciomercato.com highlights how Loftus-Cheek’s goal against Fiorentina was his 10th of the season with Milan, matching his best year with Chelsea. He can still improve on this, with the Rossoneri having at least 11 matches left to play across Serie A and the Europa League.

Despite his incredible debut year in Italy, Gareth Southgate has resisted giving the 28-year-old a call-up to the England squad, with his last national team appearance coming in November 2018.
