This summer, AC Milan are largely expected to add to their defensive ranks after the issues that plagued the squad in the early stages of the season, and today, Daniele Longo has claimed that the Rossoneri have been offered a new option.

Whatever the end of the season brings, one section of the season will be remembered as the point where the train derailed – the plague of the central defenders, which left Milan with a reliance upon backups.

The club were widely expected to solve the issue in the January window, and they did so by recalling Matteo Gabbia from Villarreal. However, the issue has not been fully settled, with Pierre Kalulu and Simon Kjaer struggling with injuries since the turn of the year.

Gabbia’s return has been a great aid to the squad, and he has surpassed expectations regularly, becoming a key figure within the defence. Whilst he has been a welcomed arrival, the club understand the need for other additions.

In recent weeks, there has been a lot suggesting that the Diavolo will reactivate their chase for Alessandro Buongiorno, but with Urbano Cairo expected to be reluctant to sell one of the side’s stars, other avenues also have to be explored.

Today, though, Longo (via FBWorldYouth on X) has revealed that the Rossoneri have been offered Raphael Varane, who is out of contract in the summer. However, they are working hard to sign Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg, which could render the offer of Varane irrelevant.
