Lazio president Claudio Lotito told the media that he ‘spent over €100m’ in the transfer market this summer.

The Biancocelesti picked up eight players in the summer transfer window – Valentin Castellanos, Daichi Kamada, Gustav Isaksen, Christos Mandas, Matteo Guendouzi, Luigi Sepe, Nicolo Rovella and Luca Pellegrini.

The total costs of all these deals, excluding wages, commissions and other fees, is around €37.26 million total.

Lazio also generated €48.3m in the outgoing market, mostly thanks to the sale of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al-Hilal, and this fee doesn’t include any buy options for the loanees.

Speaking to various media outlets recently including Corriere dello Sport and ANSA (via TMW), Lotito reflected on his work in the summer transfer window and threw a barbed comment at his rivals.

I have spent €100 million on my team, I am the one who has spent more than anyone else, without receiving any favouritism for my position. Others, on the other hand, have not bought anyone, they have only taken players on loan…

The Lazio president’s claims have already drawn much amusement from onlookers, many of whom believe the figure to be widely inflated considering what various online sources report regarding the team’s incoming transfers.
