Luis Enrique: ‘Donnarumma one of best goalkeepers in the world’

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique stands up for Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma following criticism. ‘If he makes a mistake, it is total chaos. He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.’

The shot-stopper was sent off in his most recent Ligue 1 match for flying outside the penalty area and wiping out an opponent.

He sat out a ban, but returns to the field for the crucial Champions League visit to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday with a lot of pressure on his shoulders.

“It must be so tiring being a goalkeeper!” coach Luis Enrique told Sky Sport Italia.

“All mistakes are repeated and talked about. It is very unfair. Gigio Donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, without a doubt, and he is a great man on and off the field.

“When a striker or a defender makes a mistake, there is no problem, if a goalkeeper makes an error and even more so if that goalkeeper is Gigio, then there is total chaos. I have a great deal of faith in Donnarumma.”

Curiously, Donnarumma is going to get a feel for the stadium in Dortmund tomorrow, because that is also one of the venues where Italy will play in the EURO 2024 tournament next summer.
