Kylian Mbappé has officially confirmed what fans have been speculating about: he will leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires next month. A day after the announcement, manager Luis Enrique finally commented on the situation.

Over the last couple of months, Enrique has avoided the topic and noted that he will comment on Mbappé’s future once an official announcement is made. On Saturday, the 54-year-old spoke with reporters and shared the mindset that the club will have in a post-Mbappé era.

“We’ve been aware for some time now,” Enrique told reporters (h/t Culture PSG). “I believe you all were, but it’s only been official since yesterday. This doesn’t change the situation; it remains the same. All the decisions I’ve made since [knowing about Mbappé’s departure] have always been based on what I deemed best for the team.

“And I think all parties [the club and the player] have behaved in the best possible manner. We all had the same goal. Let’s not forget there’s still a title to play for, a Coupe de France final, an important final for the club, significant for everyone. And our aim is to be ready and to continue winning titles.

“I reiterate my belief: regardless of the players present or not [in the squad], I am always convinced that we will be stronger the following year. That’s my way of thinking, and I believe it’s perfect for facing the future. Afterward, like everyone else, I can be right or I can be wrong.”

In a genuine speech that lasted over three minutes, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner expressed gratitude, admitted past mistakes, showed love for the team, and hinted at his next adventure, saying he’s ready for “a new challenge.”

Now, as the transfer saga comes to an end, everyone eagerly awaits the official announcement of his signing with Real Madrid. The 25-year-old will join the Spanish giants after the UEFA Champions League final next month.
