As the final week of the Premier League season begins, Manchester City now knows what is required to win a fourth consecutive Premier League title. Pep Guardiola’s side must beat Tottenham and West Ham to claim their place in English football history.

There was a chance heading into Arsenal’s game against Manchester United yesterday that City could’ve secured the Premier League title with a victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday. But Mikel Arteta’s side did what they had to do to ensure that the Premier League title race will extend to the final day of the season. Arsenal’s win sets up a potentially tantalising final day of the season.

But before that can eventuate the champions face Tottenham on Tuesday evening. Traditionally, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been an unhappy hunting ground for Manchester City. But they did eliminate Ange Postecoglou’s side from the FA Cup at the venue earlier this season with a hard fought 1-nil victory. It is another must win game for Manchester City to ensure they can go into Sunday’s game at the Etihad against West Ham with their title destiny in their hands.

Speaking after his team’s win over Fulham Pep Guardiola told the media that his team’s focus is only on the task at hand. The City manager insisted that his squad won’t be looking too far ahead. He told the media: “We know that we have two games left, and if we win the two, six points, we will be champions. It’s the only thing we have in our heads. The only. It’s Spurs, Spurs, Spurs. And after that, it’s West Ham, West Ham. And after that, of course we will know the result and what’s happened, but we have to see ourselves.”

Manchester City knows what is needed to be done to create history this season. Two wins this week will see the world champions claim a fourth consecutive Premier League title. It is against this backdrop that the defining week of the season begins.
