Manchester United in contact over Nice star and potential Casemiro replacement
Icon Sport

Khephren Thuram is reportedly one of the OGC Nice players on Manchester United’s radar ahead of INEOS’ investment in the club.

Liverpool are another club believed to be tracking the defensive midfielder as a player who could anchor their midfield for the long-term future.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe yet to complete his 25% acquisition of United, we are waiting to see if Erik ten Hag will receive financial backing in the January transfer window. There appears to be some doubts over financial power after the midweek exit from Europe as well as uncertainty over the manager, which I personally find baffling to be honest.

However, there’s no disputing that Casemiro is a player United need to consider replacing in the near future. He’s not currently fit and his form earlier this season raised concerns. It makes sense that we’d look at defensive midfielders such as Thuram.

Meanwhile, there has been reports suggesting that Casemiro’s representatives have been seeking assurances from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. That would be a hint that the Brazilian is at least considering a move away from Old Trafford.

United’s midfield has been a primary focus of Ten Hag’s recruitment since he took charge last summer. Due to penny pinching and shortcuts (loan deals), I don’t think our midfield has been stronger this season – with questions warranted over the Mason Mount signing.

According to Calciomercato, Juventus have failed in a move for Thuram and are now concerned they have lost ground to his Premier League suitors. The same report claims Liverpool, Manchester United and Man City are already in contact with Nice in regard to the 22-year-old.

If United have genuine interest in Thuram and believe he could be the replacement for Casemiro, hopefully Sir Jim Ratcliffe can use his influence to swing a deal our way.

A move may receive backlash from Nice supporters but I’m sure United will be made pay a transfer fee at the very least…
