Manchester United are reportedly looking at South Korean international Kim Min-jae to replace Harry Maguire next summer.

The club captain is set to depart Manchester in 2023 after four years in red. He was a regular starter under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who signed him, but has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag. Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof are all preferred in central defence over the England international.

If Maguire does leave, the Red Devils will need to sign another centre-back to bolster the position, especially given Varane’s injury record.

According to journalist Carlo Garganese, the club may pursue Min-jae. The 26-year-old is currently in Doha representing his side at the World Cup and has been in outstanding form for Napoli this season; the Italian side sit first-placed in Serie A and have progressed to the Champions League Round of 16 – they are unbeaten in both competitions. He has netted two league goals in the process.

Journalist weighs in on Maguire’s future

Garganese told GiveMeSport: “I do know that Manchester United are looking at him [Min-jae].

“Maguire, I think there’s a good chance he will leave at the end of the season so there will be a space, especially with Varane getting injuries, getting on, maybe not being as good as people hoped.”
