Forward Joaquin Correa could be reintegrated into Inter Milan’s squad next season when he returns from his loan at Marseille.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Marseille will not be in next season’s edition of the Champions League.

The French side will not qualify via Ligue 1, where their form has been erratic this season. And they also will not be winning the Europa League.

The Europa League had represented a potential pathway into Europe’s top club competition for Marseille, who were in the semifinals.

However, after a promising 1-1 draw against Atalanta in the first leg, La Dea beat the French team 3-0 in the second leg on Thursday.

Joaquin Correa Could Be Reintegrated Into Inter Squad Next Season

If there is a “silver lining” for Marseille failing to qualify for the Champions League, it is that they will not have to sign forward Correa on a permanent basis.

The Argentine has spent this season on loan with the Ligue 1 club from Inter.

Correa joined Marseille on a season-long loan deal last summer.

That was a paid loan deal with a €2 million initial fee. The deal also includes a purchase option worth around €10 million.

That option would have become a mandatory obligation in the event of Marseille’s qualification for next season’s Champions League.

However, that has not proven to be the case.

And under no obligation to sign Correa permanently, there is certainly no chance of Marseille doing so now.

Correa has barely featured for Marseille this season. And when he has, the former Lazio, Sevilla, and Sampdoria forward has hardly contributed.

There have been no goals or assists from Correa for Marseille this season.

If anything, the 29-year-old’s form this campaign has been even worse than in his two seasons at Inter.

As such, Marseille will certainly be happy to see Correa return to Inter.

The Nerazzurri, on the other hand, will have to sort Correa’s future out.

And according to Tuttosport, it is far from impossible that the Argentine could be part of the Nerazzurri’s squad next season.

Inter will want five forwards in the squad next season, considering the number of fixtures that will put their squad depth to the test.

And Correa would certainly present a convenient option to bolster the options. The Argentine would hardly be a first-choice starter – but bringing him in would cost Inter nothing.

Tuttosport note that Correa’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of next June.

Therefore, the Argentine could end up leaving on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Alternatively, the newspaper anticipate, Inter could decide to try and terminate Correa’s contract via mutual consent this summer. In that case, Estudiantes would be interested in signing the 29-year-old, reports Tuttosport.
