Marcelo Gallardo is the latest candidate for the Milan job, as it’s reported they contacted him after he parted company with Al Ittihad.

The Rossoneri continue their search for a new tactician, as Stefano Pioli is set to be sacked in the summer.

According to Sky Sport Italia, a new name in the list is Gallardo, as the 48-year-old Argentine is going to part ways with Al Ittihad.

While some reports point towards this being a mutual decision, Argentine football specialist Cesar Luis Merlo insists Gallardo was informed he has been fired.

Whatever the situation, the fact remains Gallardo is therefore a free agent and Milan directors called to ask for his availability.

Gallardo back on Milan radar

It is not the first time that the Argentine was mentioned as a potential candidate for the Rossoneri, as he was also in the very long list provided by La Gazzetta dello Sport several weeks ago.

Julen Lopetegui had been on the verge of signing the contract when Milan owners were scared off by a virulent protest from fans.

The favourite now is Sergio Conceicao, who first needs to terminate his contract with FC Porto, which can be done because it was signed by the previous President and is no longer valid.

Paulo Fonseca is another option, though he would seem to be closer to Olympique Marseille.

Gallardo has never even coached in Europe, as his only roles were at Nacional in 2011-12, River Plate from 2014 to 2022 and then moving to the Saudi Pro League for Al Ittihad in November 2023.
