AC Milan remain very interested in signing AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana and are starting to learn what it would take from a financial perspective to sign him.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri are keen on the French midfielder who will only have one year left on his contract come the end of the current season.

That may prove to be a key feature in the eventual negotiations, as Monaco may not be able to get the sort of fee that they want. The Ligue 1 side would like to get €30m for Fofana, but they are unlikely to find a club that will pay such a fee for a player with one year on their deal.

He won’t sign a new contract with Monaco and is known to be interested in Milan, and he suits the club’s desire for a more defensively-minded midfielder who can screen the back four.

Fofana currently earns €2.6m per season but he will be expecting a pay rise once he moves, as it is likely he will join a better team than Monaco.

There is plenty of interest in him from the Premier League too which could cause an issue for Milan, but he may be a good economic option given the lack of time on his contract.
