Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries is proud of winning an historic Serie A title – both for himself, and for the Nerazzurri.

The Dutchman spoke to InterTV as the team celebrated their triumph, via FCInterNews.

Now it’s official. Inter are Serie A champions for the 2023-24 season.

The Nerazzurri had previously won the title in the 2020-21 campaign.

The last couple seasons have seen the team fail to win the title. They lost in heartbreaking fashion on the last day of the season in 2021-22 – and then last season were miles behind Napoli.

But now, Inter have won their twentieth title. And with it, they can now sew the second star above the crests on their shirts.

A 2-1 win against Milan in a fiery derby was enough to make sure of that.

There were three red cards in what proved to be a dramatic conclusion to the evening.

But when referee Alessandro Colombo blew his final whistle, the Inter players and staff came streaming onto the pitch to celebrate not just the derby win, but the title.

Denzel Dumfries: Historic Serie A Title For Me & For Inter

Dumfries is now coming to the end of his third season as an Inter player.

The former PSV man joined the Nerazzurri during the summer of 2021.

During that time, Dumfries has had plenty of special moments. But never celebrate the title.

Inter were champions when the 28-year-old joined – and now, he has played his part in another victory, and an important one at that.

“This is my first Scudetto,” Dumfries said.

“I’m very happy. This is an historic moment. We won the second star for the club, what an incredible achievement.”

“On social media people joke that I never laugh,” the Dutchman added after a joke from teammate Matteo Darmian. “But that’s not really true – I’m always laughing.”
