Newcastle boss Howe: Lascelles and Dummett the core of this club

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has praised stalwarts Paul Dummett and Jamaal Lascelles.

Howe is set to lean on both veterans for tomorrow's FA Cup clash with Sunderland.

He said: "The longevity of both players is great to see. Slightly different journeys to get to this point. Paul is Newcastle through and through and his attitude and commitment every day shines.

"Jamaal has shown loyalty to the club in a difficult moment. It's great to have players who have experienced these games before. It could be pivotal for us.

"You need that (people who understand the club) within your team. I would always prefer to have a sprinkling of players who have come through the youth system and who know the expectations of the club. We have some great characters who have been here a long time. They really are the core of the club and we're really pleased to have them."
