Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon is thrilled with his first England call-up.
Having avoided serious knee injury in defeat at Chelsea on Monday, Gordon is ending the week with selection for England.
Gordon told NUFC TV: "It's been a really up and down and weird couple of days. I was looking forward to the Chelsea game so much, I knew it was a big opportunity for me. Monday Night Football, two teams who are fighting each other, a big occasion and then in the game I picked up a slight injury which made me panic a lot at the time.
"When I had them feelings I was just praying it wasn't serious and thankfully for me, it wasn't. The day after the game I came into training and it didn't feel bad at all, it hadn't swelled up. I was really confident then. I know my own body so I sort of knew in that moment I was fine."
On his England call-up, Gordon added: "Words can't describe what it means to to be honest.
"It's what I've been working my whole life for, to get the call-up is incredible. I found out about an hour before training through a text message. I was just over the moon."
