No Refereeing Controversy In Inter Milan Serie A Win Vs Frosinone – No Handball On Opening Goal

Allowing the opening goal of midfielder Davide Frattesi for Inter Milan in yesterday’s Serie A win over Frosinone was the correct decision.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper praise the handling of the match by referee Antonio Giua.

It was hardly the most difficult of evenings for referee Giua at the Stadio Benito Stirpe.

As the Gazzetta note, the referee did not hand out a single yellow card.

That was a testament to the fact that the atmosphere among the players was a calm one.

And there was also little in the way of major drama or controversy. There were no penalties, and in truth no major appeals.

But there was one turning point that proved to be decisive for the match.

And the Gazzetta see Giua and his assistants as getting it spot-on.

Correct To Allow Davide Frattesi Opener For Inter Vs Frosinone

It was midfielder Frattesi who got the opening goal yesterday at the Stirpe.

The goal came at a point when the match was certainly in the balance.

Inter’s four goals in the second have perhaps give the impression of a very one-sided match. But in the first half, things were in fact quite even.

But the Nerazzurri got the all-important opener in a moment of real quality.

Striker Marcus Thuram did extremely well to set midfielder Frattesi up. The Frenchman was certainly the architect of the Nerazzurri goal.

But there was a hint of a potential handball from the Italian international.

Thuram’s cross came across Frattesi’s body, and then the former Sassuolo midfielder did well to bundle it into the net with his thigh.

The question concerned whether or not there had been any contact with the Inter midfielder’s hand, however.

Even a slight contact would have been enough to disallow the effort.
