'Nothing is close' – Chelsea transfer deal that will annoy Pochettino still very possible

Chelsea risk the wrath of manager Mauricio Pochettino if they complete one transfer deal this summer, and it looks like that deal is still very possible.

The club are in planning stages for the summer transfer window now with just two games of the season left to play. There will be more new faces arriving, and familiar faces likely to be leaving as well.

The most high profile potential departure is midfielder Conor Gallagher, who is a favourite of manager Pochettino.

And according to Ben Jacobs, there is still every chance that Chelsea agree to sell the England international this summer in a move that will surely annoy the Argentine boss.

Jacobs says: “The door is still open for a Conor Gallagher sale, Chelsea are looking for at least £50m. Nothing is close at this stage on a contract extension.”

With nothing being close with a contract extension, and the likelihood now of an offer close to what Chelsea want coming in, it looks like they could well sell Gallagher this summer.

Pochettino will be upset about that

As I put in my exclusive article on my own website, SPTC yesterday, Pochettino has been unhappy that he has not been given what he wanted in the squad, which was more proven Premier League players and even a couple of specific names that he put forward.

There is a two-way review expected to happen soon after the Bournemouth game and both sides will decide if they want to proceed forward with the setup and whether Pochettino stays as Blues boss going into next season.

They will discuss plans for the summer and what they are going to do in terms of squad additions, and a lot will depend on whether Pochettino buys into those plans and is on board with them – hence it being a two-way review and not just on Chelsea’s side and what they want.

Pochettino will have to be happy and content with what those plans are, and that means outgoings as well. The Conor Gallagher situation is going to be huge on all of this because as you will expect, Pochettino 100% wants him in his squad next season if he is going to stay here.
