Celtic should be looking at the young talent in our own league, even if we sign them now and then loan them back to their current club…

With the end of the season almost upon us, our thoughts will soon be turning to the summer transfer window and what it has in store for us. It’s shaping up to be the most important window probably since Ange Postecoglou’s first few months as Celtic manager.

One things for sure is that we need to be acquiring a better of calibre of player than we have in the last two windows. We will of course be expecting the arrival of first team quality players, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be thinking about the future, and look to bring in a couple of promising youngsters. Particularly top talent from our own league.

Players such as Lennon Miller of Motherwell and recently named Young PFA player of the year David Watson of Kilmarnock are two names that have been mentioned by our supporters as players who could in time develop into first team Celtic stars of the future.

The two players in question have impressed this season and will no doubt have their admirers particularly from down south and further afield in the continent. Both players are highly regarded especially at their own clubs, and with them being of a certain age and still under contract, they will carry heavy price tags, which is well within their clubs’ right.

Despite being talented players, they would not be guaranteed regular first team football at Celtic, so a possible scenario would be to purchase them both and pay at a decent fee then loan them back to Motherwell and Kilmarnock respectively for another season.

Everyone benefits. The two clubs get much needed transfer income while holding onto their top star for another season, thus giving the players more guaranteed first team football, while Celtic will have two prestigious talents on the books.

It’s well worth considering, especially with the amount of domestic talent that’s slipped through the net these past few years.
